Paving is laid in two basic ways dependant on the type of paving.

Paving Blocks (Flexible Paving) Patios & Drives

  • A compacted layer of stone is laid as a base minimum 75mm for a patio or 150mm for a domestic driveway
  • A 50mm layer of sand in then compated with the blocks laid over this.
  • The whole area is then dressed with fine dried sand. This locks the paving in place and provides the friction in the joints that gives the paving it's strength.

Stone and Concrete Paving (solid construction) Patios

  • A compacted layer of stone is laid as a base minimum 75mm
  • The slabs are then bedded onto a wet mortar mix (a mixture of sand and cement)
  • The joints are then pointed once the paving is set.

To ensure the long life of the paving and protect your property from damage it is essential that the paving is set at the correct level against the house and that the paving drains correctly
